Anthropology Sources
The discipline of anthropology studies various aspects of human life in past and present societies. Originating in the 19th century, anthropology evolved into several branches through the latter half of the 19th century and the following 20th century. At present, major fields of anthropology include Social anthropology, Cultural anthropology, Biological or Physical anthropology and Linguistic anthropology. In the United States of America, archaeology is considered to be a branch of anthropology but in Europe and other Asian nations which were erstwhile colonies of European states it exists in its own right as a discipline or grouped under history.
This section features sources primarily concerned with cultural anthropology which relates to manifold ways in which people make sense of the world around them and social anthropology which focuses on relationships between people and groups. The section includes oral and other intangible sources of Kerala society such as oral traditions, myths and memories, and folk traditions.
